April 29

  • Synapse Consortium: Hamilton Health Check-up
    McMaster Innovation Park | 9:00am – 10:00am
    The Check-up is an open discussion with the goal of raising awareness of what’s happening in the Hamilton health innovation ecosystem, identify partnership opportunities, and build personal networks. The focus of the meeting will be on the development, deployment, and adoption of health innovation. Let us know if you want to attend, join our mailing list, or access past meeting minutes
  • Quality Specimens and Data for Great Research
    St. Joseph’s Charlton Campus | 12:00pm – 1:00pm
    Hosted by The Research Institute at St. Joe’s Hamilton, this month’s Seminar Series  is about “pre-analytical variables”, biospecimen quality standards, and how you can be sure biospecimens for your study meet the grade for your research project. Monique Albert (Ontario Tumour Bank) and Kelly McDonald (Ontario Health Study) will explore accessing the best specimens and ready-made research platform for longitudinal data and tracking biospecimens
  • Health Venture Program: Innovation Design, Prototyping and Iterative Development (Module 3)
    McMaster University | 5:30pm – 8:30pm
    Health Ventures is a five-month experiential learning opportunity that combines mentorship, projects, case studies and seminars to teach individuals about commercialization. Sessions are run once a month by entrepreneurial faculty members and industry professionals. Each module concludes with a short take-home assignment, to review with industry professionals at the next session. (pre-application required)
  • The Driving Forces Shaping the Future of Canadian Health Care
    Ron Joyce Centre | 7:00pm – 8:30pm
    Join a panel of industry experts as they parse the findings of the Health Leadership Academy’s forthcoming white paper. The discussion will delve into the forces shaping the health landscape and how the industry can best prepare emerging leaders to deliver change, no matter what the future holds. Panelists include André Picard (Globe and Mail), Teresa Chan (McMaster),  Shannon MacDonald (Accenture), and Greg McQueen (HLA)
  • McMaster’s Health Leadership Academy: Emerging Health Leaders Program
    McMaster University | April 28 – May 11
    The healthcare landscape is changing and requires innovative leaders to disrupt the status quo. This intensive, residential, leadership certificate program brings students across the province together to challenge their thinking and become better leaders.   • Health Entrepreneur Bootcamp (Day 1 of 2)
    The Forge at McMaster Innovation Park | 8:00am – 7:30pm 
    A small group of pre-seed HealthTech entrepreneurs will spend two intensive days getting their burning questions answered and networking in the health innovation ecosystem.  We will cover: health economics, regulatory pathways, raising capital, IP strategy, quality and risk management.  You will meet clinicians, hospital administrators, investors, and other HealthTech startups
  • NeuroXchange Conference 2019
    McMaster Health Sciences Centre | 8:00am – 4:00pm
    The 9th annual NeuroXchange conference will showcase current research in the fields of neuroscience and mental health. Come learn from keynote speakers, mental health and neurscience panels, as well as presentations of innovative research
  • Synapse HHIW2019 Networking Reception
    Merritt Brewing | 5:30pm – 8:00pm
    Come network and mingle with innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers from across the Hamilton Health ecosystem as we celebrate Hamilton Health Innovation Week!  This reception is presented by the Synapse Consortium
  • Open Forum: Code Red, Ten Years Later
    The Hamilton Spectator Auditorium | 7:00pm – 8:00pm
    Ten years ago, The Hamilton Spectator started an important discussion in Hamilton with a project we called Code Red. Using data and maps, we showed the strong connections that existed down to the neighbourhood level between people’s health and people’s wealth. The results were shocking. A decade later, we’re back with new data, asking the question: So, what’s changed?

  • St. Joseph’s Healthcare: System Day (invite only)
    St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton | 9:00am – 4:30pm
    +350 staff will gather in celebration of the successes and achievements of St. Joseph’s Healthcare, including a presentation by Minister Christine Elliott (Ontario Ministery of Health).  Participants will be able to network and visit the “Marketplace”, a showcase of care delivery and innovation excellence developed at St. Joe’s!
  • MEDIC Innovation Showcase 2019
    Mohawk College’s Digital Health User Testing Lab | 3:00pm – 7:00pm

  • Capturing the Data: Improving Patient Outcomes
    The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation | 4:00pm – 7:00pm
    JLABS is presenting a workshop on the progression of the value-for-service model has sparked development of data-driven solutions capable of demonstrating improvements in patient outcomes. The role of data in patient care is expanding in so many ways – come hear players in the field discuss trends, potential impact, challenges and more
  • Hacking Health Hamilton Meetup

    Drop in to meet research staff and learn about how they are using cutting-edge innovative technology to improve the patient experience in our hospitals and across the Hamilton region.
  • McMaster Medical Student Research Day (April 24)
    McMaster University
    Explore innovative research being performed by McMaster University medical students. e day where culmination of all research and scholarship efforts are presented to peers to highlight the achievements and accomplishments of students
  • Health & the Future and Technology (May 8)
    Hamilton Convention Centre
    TFHC will bring together innovators and clinical care experts with emerging healthcare technologies to determine the best path forward in the future of health care. Attendees of the inaugural TFHC2019 Conference will learn how technology will impact the future of health care and what new and existing technology they can incorporate into their practices today. Attendees of TFHC2019 will leave the conference empowered with information that can be used to improve convenience in providing and receiving care. Most importantly, the use of technology will be demystified for front-line providers to improve quality of care and quality of life. Attendees will include physicians of all specialties, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants and administrators responsible for clinical workflow
  • The Big DiF 2019 (May 9)
    McMaster Innovation Park | 5:00pm – 9:00pm
    The Big DiF is Innovation Factory’s annual open house and client showcase (including health startups!) that brings the Hamilton community together to celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation in our city, as well as recognize our partners who help make what we do at iF possible. The night will feature client displays, a pitch competition, networking and more! We will also recognize one person who goes above and beyond for the community – an award we call the Mark Chamberlain DiFizen of the Year Award.
